Savannah Port Terminal Railroad Service to Include Mega Rail Terminal

Expanded Capacity, Larger Trains and Shorter Transit Times to Midwest among Project Benefits

In April 2021, after serving the Port of Savannah for 23 years, G&W’s Savannah Port Terminal Railroad (SAPT) broadened its long-term services agreement to include the Port’s new Mason Mega Rail Terminal. When completed, the Port’s size will grow by 15 track-miles, and the terminal will have the ability to build and receive six 10,000-foot trains simultaneously and cut transit times to the Midwest by 24 hours.

 

SAPT was founded in 1998 to provide contracted rail intermodal and merchandise service, railcar switching and yardmaster services, and track inspection and maintenance to the Port of Savannah. SAPT currently operates 24/7 over 18 track-miles inside the Port. The railroad interchanges with CSX and Norfolk Southern, offering port customers broader access to the North American rail-freight network and additional markets.

We are confident in the ability of G&W’s SAPT railroad to consistently provide the safe, efficient rail services needed to match our growth trajectory. With the near completion of Garden City Terminal’s Mason Mega Rail project, intermodal trade via the Port of Savannah is expected to play an increasing role in our business.
