The Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad and Rochester & Southern Railroad are part of Genesee & Wyoming's New York/Ohio/Pennsylvania Region, an integrated regional rail operation that delivers the services needed by a diverse group of customers. Our team of dedicated employees throughout western New York, eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania handle a wide variety of products--led by coal, petroleum, and forest products--over more than 1,100 miles of railroad.

The roots of Genesee & Wyoming lie in upstate New York, where the original Genesee and Wyoming Valley Railroad was built to link a salt mine to other railroads 11 miles away. From this single short line, the New York/Ohio/Pennsylvania Region has grown to haul more than 260,000 carloads annually, and Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is now a leading operator of short line and regional railroads.

The Buffalo & Pittsburgh and Rochester & Southern have direct connections with both major U.S. railroads serving the east (CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern) as well as with both of Canada's transcontinental railroads (Canadian National and Canadian Pacific) and provide direct rail service to approximately 150 customers.

The Buffalo & Pittsburgh and Rochester & Southern also provide access to rail service for businesses and industries throughout the region that are not located directly on our rail lines through a network of transloading facilities. These include:
